"I walk because so many suffer in secrecy, fear, and self blame; and that has to change. And because I know how important advocacy, outreach, and education are in making that change."

— Darryl, #WhyIWalk

“I walk because I know it will make a difference in someone's life. The money raised starts a survivor's healing journey, provides resources to help them get back on their feet and training to the community to reduce the number of sexual assaults. We are stronger when we walk as one.”

Our Mission: STSM advocates for and supports survivors of sexual assault and abuse and educates the community to identify and prevent sexual violence.

Our Vision: Healthy survivors, thriving in a community free of sexual violence.

Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands is a comprehensive sexual assault services agency. Our team of highly trained staff and advocates are ready to serve survivors of sexual violence in Richland, Lexington, Sumter, Newberry, and Clarendon counties from all walks of life, at all stages, wherever they are in the healing process.

All of our services are available at no cost to the survivor, thanks to generous support of our community.

We offer the following services:

Everyone's reason why they walk is different, but has a common purpose:

  • To protect and support survivors.

  • To educate the community about the signs of sexual abuse and how we can work together to keep our state safe.

  • To give a voice to an experience shared by 1 in 4 women and 1 in 33 men.

  • To show that "It's okay to tell" and "We believe you."

  • To move victims from survivors to thrivers.

  • To create a community where the sexual abuse and exploitation of people is not tolerated.

No matter your reason, it is important that you walk. So instead of asking yourself why you should walk, ask yourself why shouldn't you?
